In her role, Carolyn:

  • Communicates and supports the Diocese’s vision for children and young people through a range of partnerships
  • Supports Church Schools to stand confidently at the heart of the church’s mission to children and families across Leicester and Leicestershire
  • Challenges and supports church schools to recruit high quality leaders and deliver highly effective provision for the children and young people they serve
  • Acts as a strategic partner and provider with Local Authorities, the Regional Director, the Department for Education and the Church of England Education Office
  • Develops closer working relationships between the DBE and other Diocesan Boards, committees and agencies
  • Advises the Bishop on educational matters from General Synod, the Church of England Education Office, Department for Education and Local Authorities
  • Deals with all issues regarding academies, including initial advice for governing bodies
  • Works with Regional Director regarding conversion to academy status and conversion through the sponsored route
  • Represents the DBE as a member for all Academy trusts

Tracey Manns, Diocesan Deputy Director of Education

In her role, Tracey:

  • Works with the director in delivering a consistent diocesan message, taking forward our key diocesan objectives and ensuring that headteachers, governors and clergy have a voice into the Diocesan Board of Education (DBE).
  • Maintains high visibility and regular contact between all schools and academies in the diocese to build relationships and partnership working.
  • Leads the promotion and development of holistic church schools effectiveness including leadership, teaching quality,  standards, RE, collective worship, and the ethos and distinctiveness of church schools.
  • Provides caring, pastoral and professional support for those working in the church school family and other schools when appropriate. 
  • Supports and represents the director as required with a range of stakeholders.

Nina Hern, Senior Business and Operations Manager

In her role, Nina:

  • Leads the day to day financial administration of the DBE, oversees financial processes and controls, works with the director to manage the Annual Report and ensures financial deadlines are met.
  • Works with the director to prepare a realistic and balanced annual budget, managing the budget to monitor and control performance to achieve value for money.
  • Leads the DBE’s Health and Safety policies and practices, ensuring they comply with legal requirements, are in line with our ethos and are implemented successfully.
  • Maintains up to date knowledge of Companies House, Charity Commission and other relevant legislative requirements to ensure the DBE remains compliant and is upholding best practice. Files accounts and maintains up to date records and statutory submissions. 
  • Manages and clerks the Appeals Service, providing high quality support for schools and parents/carers.

  • Undertake the role of Diocesan Surveyors to the DBE for Church School Buildings
  •  Advise schools on land and buildings matters on behalf of the DBE
  •  Represent the DDE with a range of stakeholders concerned with maintaining and improving Church school buildings
  •  Develop and sustain a cohesive building improvement strategy in liaison with the DDE
  •  Provide training and briefings for Church schools as needs are identified
  •  Liaise with LAs on behalf of the DBE and in support of the DDE

There are several ways the DBE supports governors in our schools; 2 Part Training Programmes; Monthly Huddles for Chairs and online sharing events

There is a full programme of RE support. If you're new to the subject lead role or an experienced hand there is something for you.
